Day 12 - Drive to Totora via Aiquile and visit of Incallajta Inca ruins - cont.

We have lunch in Totora, and as soon as possible we depart for the Incallajta ruins, which are in the neighbouring valley. Incallajta, one of the largest pre-Columbian ruins in Bolivia, at 2900m covers roughly 25 hectares and has been declared a national monument back in 1929. It is thought to be constructed around 1460, and its main purpose was guard the easternmost frontier of Bolivia against incursions of the nomadic and semi-nomadic cannibalistic tribes of the swampy lowlands. This complex is not near the main tourist routes and thus is rarely visited, and there is a great chance that we will be the only visitors.

After touring the ruins with local guide we return to Totora where we spend the night.
