Day 7 - Explore Salar de Uyuni - cont.

From Coquesa we drive south west to the largest island in the Salar – Isla de Pescado (Fish Island). The island is covered with beautiful cacti and is inhabited by rodents and viscachas – small rabbit like creatures. The best time to visit this island is during the afternoon hours, as the setting sun gives a golden colour to the whole landscape. While we wait for the favourable afternoon hours we might take a hike to the top of the island. On the way up, with luck one can spot viscachas hopping from rock to rock like little wallabies. The hike is quite difficult as there are no specific trails and the terrain is very rocky and at places very steep, however the views from the top of the island are certainly worth of the afford.

Some time before sunset we drive back to Colchani via Inkawasi (fisherman’s island – smaller and more visited island, as it is on all tour agencies list, because it is closer and in a direct route to the Red and Green lagoons), and Salt Hotel. From Colchani we return back to Uyuni.
