Day 7 - Explore Salar de Uyuni

First we visit the train graveyard, and then we visit the Colchani village which lives from salt extraction from the Salar. Then we visit Ojos de Salar, natural springs where an underground river bubbles out to surface through the salt layers. We then continue to Salt Hotel, constructed wholly of salt. Our next stop is the Coquesa village, at the north shore of the Salar below the imposing Tumupa volcano, where we visit caves with old Indian mummies. There are magnificent views of the Salar from the caves. Finally we drive across to Fish Island (Isla de Pescado). We climb to the top of the island and enjoy the late afternoon hours with magnificent views, and with luck spot some of the local fauna consisting mainly of small rabbit like creatures – viscachas. Late in the afternoon we drive back across the Salar to Uyuni, via the smaller Inkawasi Island.
