We have an early start today as we have a long journey north. As we travel away from the “main” road, the little farms established by recent colonizers who settled here from the Altiplano disappear and we are engulfed by dense vegetation. During our drive, should we be fortunate, we may sight a number of wild animals crossing the road, it is not uncommon to spot a giant anteater here, or wild pigs.
In due course we arrive to the turnoff to the park itself, the road here is the road less travelled and the surrounding evergreen rainforest closes onto the track brushing the sides of the vehicle. Finally we arrive to a small Indian settlement Florida. Here we cross Paragua River on a pontoon into the Noel Kempff Mercado National Park proper and drive through dense jungle to the Los Fierros camp which will be our home for several nights. After dinner we go for a nocturnal walk to sight more wildlife. If we are fortunate enough we may even spot a tapir or two and some monkeys.
