In the morning we depart Potosí and make our way to Sucre. The road to Sucre gently descents from Potosi back to Altiplano. This is quite fertile region full of potato, broad beam and corn fields. Eventually the road starts a sharp descent to drier valley region with thorny bushes and cactus plants; in due course the road crosses Pilkomayo River. Nearby there is an old suspension bridge, a fine example of colonial architecture. The road then arrives to Sucre. The total travelling distance is about 150km and can be covered in about 2 ½ hours of comfortable travel.
Sucre has an altitude of 2800m and has a lovely temperate climate. Sucre is known in Bolivia as the “White City”. This is because the central colonial part of the city is fairly well maintained and all houses are painted white.
