14:30-16:30 Puente Villa – Coroico (55 km – 34.2 mi)

The road follows the Tamampaya river for a while and then starts to climb up towards the town of Coripata, from which it leads to the village of Aripata. This area is the most heavily involved in the coca growing. You will be able to see acres and acres of coca fields all over the surrounding hillsides. From Aripata the road follows the contour of the Uchumachi hill, which is a source of numerous creeks and brooks which provide water for the surrounding villages. We will pass several small waterfalls on our way, before arriving to the most beautifully placed town in the area, Coroico. Coroico has a pleasant climate due to its location and altitude of 1700 m (5577 f).


16:30-18:00 Coroico

Coroico is a lovely village, and during the week it is rather quite and relaxed. It is during the weekends and holidays it gets influx of people from La Paz who try to get away from the city. We will check into the Hotel Esmeralda, which is above Coroico, and go down into the village on foot. We will stroll through the main square visit the church (if opened), and then slowly return to the hotel to enjoy our dinner with beautiful views of the Cordillera Real and the valley of river Coroico.
