Day 2 - Page 1

08:30-12:30 Hike in Apa Apa Forest

We will have an early breakfast, as the hike through Apa Apa forest is best early in the morning. After the breakfast we will depart for a hike with a local guide through the Apa Apa forest, which is famous among birdwatchers for its bird life and has lots of local flora represented. It is the last pocket of original mountain jungle which covered most of the gullies and hills in this area. It gives a good idea of what the surrounding valleys and gullies looked like before the influx of colonizers from the highlands changed the aspect of the surrounding area. After the hike we can have a rest and maybe a swim in the pool, and after that have our lunch and after the lunch we will depart for the village of Coroico via Chulumani.

13:30-13:45 Apa Apa – Chulumani (5 km – 3.1 mi)

Just few kilometres from the Apa Apa reserve is the main town of the region, Chulumani. Chulumani is the main commercial and trading centre of the area, where products from the local farms and communities are traded or exchanged. There are nice views from the road of the cultivated valley of Solacama river.

13:45-14:30 Chulumani - Puente Villa (25 km – 15.5 mi)

From Chulumani the road crosses yet another ridge and descents into a narrow valley of the Tamampaya river. The road snakes down to Puente Villa, small village at crossroads at 1200 m (3937 f), we turn off from the main road here and we follow the Tamampaya river east towards Coroico.
