Day 21 - Leaving Los Fierros, stopping in Florida for a short boat ride on river Paragua and then driving to Concepción

We begin our day quite early as we have another eventful day ahead of us. We drive back to the park entrance and cross the Paragua River on a pontoon as part of our journey to La Florida village. A local guide takes us for a short canoe ride on the Paragua River. The river journey offers us the possibility of spotting giant river otters. Approximately one-tenth of the world's giant river otters live along Noel Kempff's waterways. Besides otters, other river creatures that inhibit these waters are the capybaras, river turtles, pink river dolphins, black and spectacled caiman and a large variety of birds, there are also several species of monkeys around. Should we have time on our side we may indulge in a quick fish for piranhas.

Returning from the river trip we have a quick lunch and depart for a long drive to Concepción where we stay overnight. Should we arrive relatively early, we have the choice of inspecting the Jesuit church which is yet another fine example of the amazing woodcarving and painting of the local Indians under Jesuit supervision. This baroque church was built in 1753-1756 and was restored in 1982. Concepción is also known for its orchid festival which attracts a large crowd in the first weekend of October.
