Lake Titicaca (TE02-02-L)

Day 2 - Page 3

12:15-12:45 Iñak Uyu (The Temple of the Moon)

At one stage, Island of the Moon served as a prison, however now the Iñak Uyu is one of the best preserved ruins of the Lake Titicaca region. There is a large terrace wall built with finely fitted classic Inca stone masonry, which is unique in this area. The complex is not large and it will take only a short time to inspect it fully. After we have thoroughly examined the temple, we will board our boat one last time, and return to Yampupata to our SUVs. If the weather is good, there will be beautiful views of the Mt. Illampu showing up behind the Island of the Moon.

13:45-14:45 Yampupata – Copacabana (20 km – 12.4 mi)

From Yampupata we will return along the shore road back to Copacabana.

Once in Copacabana we will have our late lunch, before we start the journey back to La Paz, at the hotel or in any of the numerous restaurants in Copacabana.

16:00-16:40 Copacabana – San Pedro (40 km – 24.9 mi)

From Copacabana we will return along the same road to the Tiquina Straight, and if the sky is clear we will be able to enjoy magnificent views of Cordillera Real over the Lake Titicaca, and even catch a glimpse of the highest mountain of Bolivia, the Sajama volcano.

16:40-20:30 San Pedro – San Pablo – La Paz (120 km – 75 mi)

At San Pedro we will board the ferry again, and cross the Tiquina Straight to San Pablo. From San Pablo we will return to La Paz. The road is the same road we have taken from La Paz, however now with the sunset we might get some good lighting conditions for picture taking of the Cordillera Real, if the mountains are not covered by clouds. Tour ends at your hotel.
