12:00-13:00 Lunch in the town of Tiwanaku

We will have our lunch at the Gran Hotel Tiahuanacu, the best restaurant in the town of Tiwanaku, frequented by the travellers from all around the world who come to Bolivia to see Tiwanaku. Local food available (Llama steak, dehydrated potatoes etc.). After lunch we will depart Tiwanaku for El Alto.

15:30-16:00 Achocalla – Valley of the Moon (20km – 12mi)

The road goes back to the outskirts of El Alto where we will pass through some of the suburbs until we arrive to the edge of the La Paz valley, where we will start to descent along a cobble stoned road to the village of Achocalla. If there is no cloud cover, we will have magnificent views if Mt. Illimani and the southern part of the valley of La Paz. Acochalla is situated in one of the many side valleys snaking up from the valley La Paz. It is fairly arid area with lots of fantastic formations resulting from water erosion. We will pass through small villages with small fields of potatoes, wheat and corn. Along the road there are very humble “weekend destinations” for the people of El Alto.

14:00-15:30 Tiwanaku – Achocalla (90km – 56mi)

From Achocalla the road keeps descending towards the river La Paz. Eventually we will start to see isolated houses and little condominiums of well off paceños (inhabitants of La Paz). We will bypass the La Paz Golf Club, the highest situated golf course in the world, and we will arrive to the suburb of Mallasa, which is situated around the Valley of the Moon.
