10 days - Rurrenabaque - Pampa Tour (TE10-01)
Detailed Itinerary - Page 9
Madidi NP, La Paz, Rurrenabaque, Pampas and Chalalan
Day 7 - Chalalan Ecolodge

This last full day at Chalalan has no definite program. There are several possibilities, such as: walk through the jungle, navigating or bathing in the lagoon or a plain and simple rest and enjoyment of the Chalalan area. All depends on the mood and consensus of the group. The local guides are available to us the whole day. After dinner the guides tell stories and local legends, and also describe some of the local customs. We go to bed early because the next day awaits us with a quite early breakfast.

Day 8 - Navigation from Chalalan to Rurrenabaque and flight to La Paz

We get up really early today, and after our last breakfast at the lodge we take the short walk through the jungle to the River Tuichi. Here we board our canoe and navigate downstream back to Rurrenabaque. This time, as we are going downstream, the duration of the trip is cut nearly by half.

Once in Rurrenabaque we make our way to the airport, where we await our flight to La Paz.

After the one hour flight we land at the El Alto airport and taking the already familiar road down to La Paz.

After lunch we have time to buy some souvenirs. We have to take it easy as we are back in the altitude again. The local souvenirs are numerous; one can get sweaters or ponchos made out of llama or alpaca wool, ceramic pots and plates with local motives, wood carvings, silver jewelry and many other interesting items. We also visit the local witch market, where one can obtain all kinds of herbs and potions which seem to cure any remedy, even cheating wife or husband. One can even purchase llama embryos which are embedded in the foundations of new houses as a good luck charm
