10 days - Rurrenabaque - Pampa Tour (TE10-01)
Detailed Itinerary - Page 5
Madidi NP, La Paz, Rurrenabaque, Pampas and Chalalan

Day 4 - Walk through the pampas and return to Rurrenabaque

Our second day starts with a simple breakfast after which we head off into the pampas for a longer walk. The purpose of the walk is to see the numerous water birds that frequent the edges of the little lagoons and marshes formed in the pampas. With some good fortune we might come across some reptiles, hopefully an anaconda.

During the dry season the fauna tend to concentrate around the shrinking lagoons, so the chance to see an anaconda during the dry season is more likely. During the walk our local guide will show us some of the local plants and will explain to us their uses. The walk through the pampas is quite demanding, as one has to negotiate tough high grass and sometimes mud, thus we return quite tired to the campsite for the deserved lunch, and those eager enough might even have a swim in the river among piranhas and caimans.

After lunch we leave our campsite and depart on the canoes back to our car. There is a great possibility that we might be followed by the river dolphins, and who knows, we might spot that elusive anaconda after all, and it would not be the first time. The trees along the river are full of birds once again, including some kingfishers.

After couple of hours on the river we transfer to the car and arrive back to Rurrenabaque in the evening. We have our dinner here after which we will get ready for a four day trip to the jungle.
