10 days - Rurrenabaque - Pampa Tour (TE10-01)
Detailed Itinerary - Page 2
Madidi NP, La Paz, Rurrenabaque, Pampas and Chalalan

Day 2 - Flight to Rurrenabaque and sightseeing in the town and its surroundings

Early in the morning we leave for the airport. We take one hour flight to Rurrebanaque. This one hour flight takes us from the Andes to the Amazon lowlands, from the shadows of the mighty mountains to the tropical jungle.

Rurrebanaque is a small town on the banks of River Beni, which has its springs near La Paz in the vicinity of Mt. Chacaltaya. It is the starting point for the trips to the Amazon jungle, Madidi National Park and to the grassy flood plains called here the Pampas. Both regions have its magic; in the jungle one can see large number of plants and insects, the large animals stay hidden from the sight of a visitor. On the other hand in the pampas, especially during the dry season, when the river levels are low, one can see various species of birds, reptiles and other animals such as Capybara and sloth.

Once in Rurrebanaque we check into our hotel, have a lunch and take scroll through the busy town. We visit the local church and the local market with the tropical fruits and vegetables, and if time allows we take the ferry and cross River Beni to visit the village of San Buenaventura. There is a small museum dedicated to the local Indians. After dinner those who feel game can visit the local nightspots and taste the local beer (which is not bad at all).
