Tiwanaku, Lake Titicaca and Coroico (TE05-01-TLC)

Day 2 - Page 5

16:00-17:00 Challapampa – Island of the Moon (12 km - 7.5 mi - boat)

Once back in Challapampa we will board our boat yet again and sail across to the Island of the Moon (Isla de la Luna). This time the boat ride is bit longer, it is roughly 12 km (7.5 mi). It is a pleasant ride with views of both islands and Cordillera Real on the horizon.

17:00-17:30 Iñak Uyu (The Temple of the Moon)

At one stage, Island of the Moon served as a prison, however now the Iñak Uyu is one of the best preserved ruins of the Lake Titicaca region. There is a large terrace wall built with finely fitted classic Inca stone masonry, which is unique in this area. The complex is not large and it will take only a short time to inspect it fully. After we have thoroughly examined the temple, we will board our boat one last time, and return to Yampupata to our SUVs. If the weather is good, there will be beautiful views of the Mt. Illampu showing up behind the Island of the Moon.

18:30-19:15 Yampupata – Copacabana (20 km – 12.4 mi)

From Yampupata we will return along the shore road back to Copacabana.

Once in Copacabana we will have our diner, after the dinner those who wish can go back to the main square and do some souvenir shopping, or just observe the hustle and bustle of the small town.
