Day 2 - Page 3

11:00-11:30 Yumani

Yumani is the main port on the Island of the Sun. It has a large pre-Columbian stairway which climbs among terrace fields up to the stone fountain with three springs, which had religious significance for the Incan culture. There are local woman and children everywhere trying to sell all kinds of local handicrafts and pose for picture taking. Here we will leave the Island of the Sun and take our boat yet again and we will follow the coast line the Island of the Sun, until we arrive to Challapampa. This time the boat ride is bit longer, it is roughly 8 km (5 mi). It is a pleasant ride with views of both islands and Cordillera Real on the horizon. One can observe closely the slopes of the Island of the Sun, totally covered with functional terraced fields. While enjoying the views, we can eat our boxed lunch.

12:30-13:00 Challapampa

Challapampa is a small port at the north side of the Island of the Sun, it has a nice beach and also a small museum. We can visit this museum with local exhibits; however the exhibits are rather a poor show. From Challapampa we will depart for a short hike to the most extensive Incan ruins in the area, Chinkana.
