Day 3 - Page 1

8:00-10:30 Exploration of Copacabana

After a delicious breakfast we shall start our exploration of Copacabana on foot. First we will go to the Calvary, which is on a rocky outcrop above the town. This is a destination for many pilgrims. Here native priests perform ceremonies which blend ancient believes with catholic faith. There are stations of the cross all the way to the top of the hill (each station donated by different family), from which there is a magnificent view of Copacabana and the Lake Titicaca. One can also see the Island of the Sun from here. Our tour follows with the visit of the famous Moorish-style Cathedral, and its museum devoted to the virgin of Candelaria. After that we return to our hotel, check out and bit farewell to Copacabana.

10:30-11:30 Copacabana – San Pedro (40 km – 24.9 mi)

From Copacabana we will return along the same road to the Tiquina Straight, and if the sky is clear we will be able to enjoy magnificent views of Cordillera Real over the Lake Titicaca, and even catch a glimpse of the highest mountain of Bolivia, the Sajama volcano.

11:30-12:30 San Pedro–San Pablo–Huatajata (30 km–19 mi)

At San Pedro we will board the ferry again, and cross the Tiquina Straight to San Pablo. From San Pablo we will return to La Paz. The road is the same road we have taken from La Paz, however now with the sunset we might get some good lighting conditions for picture taking of the Cordillera Real After a short ride we will arrive to Huatajata, a long village on the shores of the Minor lake, and we shall have our lunch here with the views of the Lake Titicaca.
