Photos and Pictures from Potosi department of Bolivia

Welcome to the picture album of Potosi department of Bolivia. Here you will find photographs of the main attractions in Potosi that are visited by one or more Bolivian Experience tours. Some are not on a scheduled tour, but can be visited if you wish so. We can put together a tour just for you and your friends.

The department of Potosí is in south-western Bolivia. It comprises 118,218 km² (45,644 sq mi) with 709,013 inhabitants (2001 census). The capital is the city of Potosí, one of the highest situated cities in the world (4,000 m – 13,100 f). It is mostly a barren, mountainous region with one large plateau, Altiplano, to the west, where the largest salt flat in the world, Salar de Uyuni, is located. Potosí was the richest province in the Spanish empire, providing a great percentage of the silver that was shipped to Europe. Potosi borders upon Chile to the west, Argentina to the south, and the departments of Oruro to the north, Cochabamba to the northeast, Chuquisaca to the west and Tarija to southwest.
