Andes and Altiplano
The Andes are a fairly young mountain system. Their age is roughly 100 million years. This is evidenced by larger number of volcanos which rise amongst its peaks and by the frequent earthquakes. Andes are the backbone of not only Bolivia, but of the whole South America. It is one of the largest mountain systems in the world, it does not reach the height of the Himalayas, but like a huge wall reaching above the permanent snow line, it stretches 8000 km (5000 mi) along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. From the Tierra del Fuego all the way up to Caribbean. It passes through different climatic zones and takes on many different appearances.
