Destination Sorata
A quiet and pleasant town which lies in a beautiful valley perched below Mt. Illampu with a mild climate at 2678 m (8784 f). It used to be quite a rich town in the days long gone due to gold mining activities in the area, now it is a base for tracking trips and climbing expeditions in the region of the Mt. Illampu and Mt. Ancohuma.
There spectacularviews from Sorata of Mt. Illampu and of the surrounding valleys. There are also San Pedro caves near by which are home to several species of bats.
