Destination Copacabana

Copacabana is the most beautiful and picturesque town on the whole of the Lake Titicaca, it is a pilgrimage destination for hundreds of pilgrims during the holy week who walk there all the way from La Paz, to pay homage to the Virgin of Candelaria. During the year it is also favorite weekend destination for Paceños (La Paz inhabitants), who come to scroll along the beach, or come to get their car blessed at the famous Copacabana Cathedral.

The name Copacabana is derived from Aymara word Kota Kahuana meaning "Look out over the lake" or "Lookout over the precious stone". It is about 160 km from La Paz.

It is a gateway for the trips to the Island of the Sun and Island of the Moon on the Lake Titicaca. There are beautiful views of the town and the lake from the Calvary hill above the town, and there are two minor archeological sites nearby Intikala and Horca de Inca.
